Historian John C. Manton shares news of Linda-Wolfe Bateman's death.

BATEMAN, Linda (nee Wolfe) of Roxborough, in the 61st year of her age, died suddenly at Jefferson University Hospital, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, after a long fight with cancer on Dec. 17, 2012.

Linda Wolfe Batemen was the daughter of the late Harold & Florence A. Wolfe and a long-time resident of Philadelphia, having been reared in Germantown. She graduated from Ancilla Domini Academy 1970, Penn State University (York) campus 1971, and Montgomery County Community College, 1975.

She was also the wife of the late Anthony Gilbert Bateman, Sr., Esq. of Germantown, a former Assistant District Attorney and unsuccessful Democratic candidate for Mayor of Philadelphia in 1983.

During her long working life she was at various times a retail clothes manager, employment agency employee, operated a family business in a dinner/theatre cafe in Germantown, supervisor in the Pennsylvania Department of Revenue’s Inheritance Tax Division and the founder and owner of Eflow & Company, a private inheritance tax assistance corporation.

A Republican leader of the 12th Ward of Philadelphia, Ms. Bateman was the Republican candidate for the Philadelphia Register of Wills in 2010, and the 194th District of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in 2012.

At the time of her demise, she maintained two residences in Roxborough and Germantown where she was gradually restoring an historic, 267-year-old house.

Many of her friends who were invited to her Roxborough home, remember her excellent cooking.

She is survived by a sister Lorraine, five children, Maria, Michael, Matthew, Maurice, and Margaret Bateman, and one granddaughter.  Arrangements were by the Claire McIlvaine Mundy Funeral Home, 7384 Ridge Avenue.  Funeral at the convenience of the family.
