Too Early For Holiday Music?

Patch asks when Christmas jingles jive with you.

It may be mid-November, but local radio stations already are dusting off their holiday records in preparation for seasonal Yuletide spinning. But is it too early for B101 and BEN-FM to "Rock Around the Christmas Tree," if Tom the Turkey hasn't been properly stuffed?

What's your favorite Christmas carol? Do you prefer the holiday classics or more modern Christmas tunes? Let us know you think by voting in our poll and sharing your comments.

I LOVE the music but PLEASE not till after Thanksgiving! It gives me angina and TOTALLY stresses me out! Play it after Thanksgiving and all December into January!

I think it shouldn't start until after December 15th. If you start it too early, by the tme Christmas comes, you are sick of hearing it.

The Media Chamber Chorale holiday concerts are Dec. 9 & 10 http://www.mediachamberchorale.org/

In an ideal world, there would be a month of Octember, when merchants could sell Halloween candy next to Christmas gifts and Turkeys.

It should start first week of December. Other than that, it becomes too much too many times and the joy of listening to it is erased. It just becomes one big blur of sound, like all the stuff that's played on radio all year long. Less is more!

Bob,
Do you prefer listening to that on the radio or your own collection of holiday favorites?

Thanks David. Be sure to add those events to our calendar on Media Patch. http://media.patch.com/events/new

I think it should start Thanksgiving evening, just in time for those who are gearing up for Black Friday shopping to get in the holiday spriti!

I found this and it is really good. If you like Christmas music, and are ready now, iRadioPhilly.com has a 24/7 online channel called "Mistletoe." Here it is http://www.iradiophilly.com/flashstation.php?idStation=23

Way too early. After a few weeks you get sick of it way before Christmas arrives.
Any way, here is a tip on a good Christmas album: http://www.amazon.com/A-Very-She-Him-Christmas/dp/B005V4FJC4/ref=sr_shvl_album_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1321536188&sr=301-1

Stations switch over to the Christmas format because it consistently spikes their ratings. It becomes a competition between them to be perceived as "the" Christmas music station. Personally, I don't want to hear it until that Thanksgiving drive to Grandmother's house - or maybe the ride home.

Sirius XM channel 147 spins holiday music by the likes of Crosby, Sinatra, Ella, Peggy Lee, Torme, Jo Stafford and other artists of the 'Great American Songbook' era. They bring style, musicianship and great arrangements to their performances no matter what they sing. To me, it is pure joy to hear them sing the songs of the season. Play on!

Thanks Tom

I'm not familiar with that album. Looks like it could be good. Thanks for sharing.
Anyone else have a favorite holiday album to share?
Moe November 18, 2011 at 03:37 pm
I prefer to make my own Christmas music playlist from songs I personally like.
Then I can play them anytime, anywhere by burning a CD, on an .mp3 player or computer. Radio is just too annoying nowadays.
