A Philadelphia man who allegedly abused his role as a public adjuster to steal over $700,000 in insurance proceeds meant for Montgomery County home and business owners was placed under arrest yesterday, and will face over 200 criminal charges brought against him by the District Attorney's Insurance Fraud Unit.

According to a press release issued today from the Office of Montgomery County DA Risa Vetri Ferman, Marshall Perlman, of Philadelphia, allegedly used his Lower Merion Township business, Claimstar, Inc., in tandem with his role as a Pennsylvania Public Adjuster to take money from 29 different insurance settlements dating back to 2010, including 10 settlements for properties damaged from Hurricane Sandy.

The DA alleges that Perlman, upon receiving settlement checks he was to forward to his clients, instead kept $711,133.58 - at times forging the signatures of his clients in order to deposit settlement checks into his bank accounts.

Among the charges leveled at Perlman are Insurance Fraud, Theft by Deception, Forgery and Identity Theft.

Perlman was arraigned by MDJ Henry J. Schireson yesterday, with bail set at $175,000. Perlman will stand before Schireson again for a Dec. 19 preliminary hearing at the judge's Narberth court.
