Open Flame Cause of Blaze on Ridge Last Month

The cause was determined earlier this month by the Philadelphia Fire Department.

According to the Philadelphia Fire Department, an open flame caused to fire in a two-story carriage house in the rear of a vacant assisted living home at Ridge Avenue and Kingsley Street in late October.

An open flame, Fire Captain Jeffrey Thompson said, could be a candle, lighter or match. He would not comment on whether or not someone may have been living in the vacant building.

"It's possibility," he said. "The cause is pretty straightforward."

A fire was reported at the same location about a year ago, but Thompson said he is unsure of the cause of the 2010 blaze.
