City Police Looking for Community's Help With New Initiative

SafeCam is the department's newest crime prevention and investigative tool.

The Philadelphia police department recently unveiled SafeCam, it's newest crime prevention and investigation tool.

Residents who register their camera not only help deter crime but assist the department in its overall crime prevention strategy in neighborhoods, a release said.

Registration takes about 10 minutes and there is no cost associated with registration and information is confidential.

Once registered, residents' cameras must be verified and families will receive a SafeCam window decal.

Residents will only be contacted by the police if there is a criminal incident in the vicinity of their security camera. Police personnel, if necessary, may request a copy of any video captured by the camera that may assist in an investigation.
