Deck Fire Wakes Up Mansion Street

Tenant shaken up but no injuries reported.

A deck fire of unknown origins erupted at the back of 4620 Mansion St. Friday morning, damaging the property but leaving no one injured, a tenant said.

The Philadelphia Fire Department responded to the Manayunk block at 4:47 a.m. July 13 for a fire at the two-story rowhome on the steep street near Leverington Avenue.

Executive Fire Chief Richard Davidson said crews arrived to find the building heavily involved with fire, which the tenant later was on the back deck.

Fire officials quickly contained the fire and had it under control by 5:05 a.m. Davidson said there were no injuries nor damage to adjoining properties.

Tax records indicate the building is owned by Michael Wolf, and is rented out to tenants, who said they just moved it.

One tenant, who was asleep when the fire began, said the damage was mostly at the property's rear and the front remained fine, on the whole.

Davidson said the fire's official cause was still under investigation.
