Dogs Pepper Sprayed During Burglary, Police Say

Two dogs were pepper-sprayed, and a safe containing over $29,000 in items were stolen during a burglary.

Over $29,000 in items was stolen and two dogs were pepper-sprayed during a burglary in the 300 block of Ripka Street on Aug. 1, police said.

A man told police that he left his apartment on Aug. 1 at around 7:30 a.m., when he returned at 4:30 p.m. he noticed that the first floor door had been pried open and that his apartment and garage had been ransacked.

The man told police that whoever entered his apartment used pepper spray to subdue the man’s dogs.

Once the dogs had been subdued, a grey safe was stolen from the apartment, and police valued the contents of the safe at over $29,000.

The stolen items in the safe included a Rolex watch, a separate platinum watch, a laptop, gold chains and $6,800 in cash, police said.

Police lifted a partial finger print from the crime scene.
