Hot Coffee Thrown at Parking Enforcement Officer, Police Say

A man strongly objects to his parking ticket.

Aggravated Assault: On March 21, at approximately 11:30 a.m., police received a report of an assault in the 4300 block of Main Street.  According to police, an enforcement officer with the Philadelphia Parking Authority had issued a citation for a car parked on Main Street.  The owner of the car came out of a nearby coffee shop as the citation was being issued.  Police say that the vehicle owner became irate at the enforcement officer, and the vehicle owner then threw his large cup of hot coffee at the enforcement officer.

As frustrating as it can be, trying to patronize local businesses on a quiet Thursday morning and feel punished for it - you'll buy your coffee in a strip mall next time. That said, such behavior is unacceptable and may be interpreted as an assault - maybe you'll drink your coffee from styrofoam at the Roundhouse.

While PPA officers are simply state-protected thieves for the most part (aren't we taxed enough and aren't small businesses hurting enough?), throwing hot coffee on them only worsens the problem. If you hate the PPA, create a movement against them. And Simon, do you support police brutality, corruption, ignorant laws as "I'm just doing my job!"

"PPA officers are simply state-protected thieves..." Stacy, can you back up this statement with actually facts and examples or is this just your uneducated childish opinion? And Stacy, are you comparing the writing of a legit parking ticket to a police brutality ?? You do realize how idiotic that sounds, right? And your anti-PPA "movement"?! Good luck with that. I'm sure you'll gain massive support from the hotheaded coffee-tossing demographic. I agree with Simon. Park illegally, get a ticket. Whats so hard to understand. It's not difficult to get parking on Main St at 11:30am.

This city took a wrong turn when it started the PPA. Patronage jobs for drones. I'd LOVE to see an actual cost analyisis of the PPA to see if, in the end, it cost taxpayers more than it takes in. And be sure to add in pensions and fringe benefits. And how about a class action suit against the state and city for issuing more licenses than we have in parking spaces?

You're wrong all over the place. 1) they're employed by the city 2) they're not stealing; people who park illegally take spaces from and otherwise endanger law-abiding drivers and pedestrians; think of it in terms of them rather than those getting tickets 3) PPA is good for small business; without the revenue, the city would have to make it up with sales or property tax - both are actual costs on small business

Here ya go. Those drones made the city 26 mil more than it cost to employ them. http://philapark.org/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/PPA-Fin-Stmts-Final.pdf

One word : CORRUPT !!!

Thanks Tyler. I'm an accountant and I read the UNAUDITED report you posted. Did ya notice that if the PPA went out of business tomorrow, it would have $184,000,000 in unfunded long term liabilitites and only $104,000,000 in unrestritced net assets to pay them? Just sayin'...
