Police: 27 Car Break-ins End 2012

Nearly 30 thefts from autos reported in year's last week.

Roxborough and Manayunk may be the safest city police district in terms of violent crime, but it can serve as the setting for less severe offenses.

According to the 5th District of the Philadelphia Police Department, 2012 ended with a string of thefts from autos. In total, 27 cars were reported as either broken into or illegally entered from Dec. 24 to Dec. 31—a busy week in any neighborhood.

The thefts spanned the area—from Manayunk and Roxborough, to Wissahickon and Andorra. In nearly all cases, only minor items (like GPS, cell phones or clothing) were taken.

Police said the most expensive theft occurred when all four tires were taken from 7900 Henry Ave.—totaling about $1,500 in damages.

Community Relations Officer Charles Kline often warns residents to lock doors (in some cases, the vehicles were unlocked) and hide valuables.

In one instance on 400 Naomi St., the car owner left the door open and ran inside to drop off her mother. Her purse was stolen in the interim, and its contents were taken.

I'm on Freeland Ave and had my window smashed just to seal my GPS Garmin. It cost me $300.00 to fix window. I have name of a guy caught on security camera breaking in car and taking things. Guy went to his house to receive his property. We should go and get ours!!
