Police: 27 Car Break-ins End 2012

Nearly 30 thefts from autos reported in year's last week.

Roxborough and Manayunk may be the safest city police district in terms of violent crime, but it can serve as the setting for less severe offenses.

According to the 5th District of the Philadelphia Police Department, 2012 ended with a string of thefts from autos. In total, 27 cars were reported as either broken into or illegally entered from Dec. 24 to Dec. 31—a busy week in any neighborhood.

The thefts spanned the area—from Manayunk and Roxborough, to Wissahickon and Andorra. In nearly all cases, only minor items (like GPS, cell phones or clothing) were taken.
