Police: Dexter St. Bike Thieves Arrested

Two teens caught stealing bikes from Manayunk homes.

Philadelphia Police said they arrested two teens in early September for stealing at least six bikes from Manayunk homes.

At 10:30 p.m. Sept. 12 two police officers observed two teens lurking around homes along the 4000 block of Dexter Street.

Police said one teen stood guard, while the other stole bicycles from people's homes.

When officers confronted the teens, they found five bicycles in their possession on the 100 block of Markle Street, police said.

One neighbor, who reported witnessing the bike thefts, positively identified the two teens as those who took her bike.

Three residents that day reported six bikes missing. Police found four of those bikes, initially, and later an additional three bicycles at another location, in their possession. The four were returned.

Police also found a maroon Schwinn Sidewinder woman's mountain bike, read Power X Next mountain bike and blue and yellow Gary Fisher Piranha mountain bike. Contact the 5th District Police at 215-686-3050 to claim the bikes.

The two teens were arrested. One was is charged as a minor. The other, age 18, was charged with theft by unlawful taking—moveable property, receiving stolen property and conspiracy theft. All are misdemeanor offense.

The adult, from West Philadelphia, was released on bail Sept. 13, according to court records. He has an arraignment set for Oct. 26.
