Police Hold Hero Scholarship Drive

5th district begins fundraising effort for children of fallen officers.

Recently, the Philadelphia Police Department who also left behind children. Police and fire officials begin their fundraising effort to help those families impacted by premature officer deaths.

In a letter to the Roxborough-Manayunk community, 5th District Lieutenant Michael Payne announced the commencement of the 2012 Hero Scholarshio Fund Drive.

Payne said money raised "provides educational scholarships for these children" of officers killed in the line of duty.

The drive leads up to the Hero Thrill Show, an annual event held at the Wells Fargo Complex Sept. 22 at noon. Tickets for that show cost $10, or $25 for a family of five (two adults and three children under 12).
