Police: Markle Street Man Charged With Murder

Gregory Mitros, 52, was charged with murder for allegedly shooting his wife in their home Monday.

Less than 24-hours after the 100 block of Markle Street in Manayunk for the report of a shooting, Gregory Mitros, 52,  has been charged with murder, Philadelphia Police said. 

Mitros, police said, fatally shot his 64-year-old wife in their home on Markle Street Monday. No possible motive or reason has been released. 

He will remain in custody and there was no bail set because it was a capital offense, a representative from the department said.

As of Tuesday morning no court dates have been set.

Property records indicate and neighbors confirm that Lynda Karlin-Mitros owned the property and was killed Monday.

Neighbors of the Mitros' said they were shocked to hear the news Monday as they gathered on the street around 5 p.m. 

"They've been together forever," Harry Baeringer, a friend of Mitros, said of the couple. "They've had their differences but nothing like this, they were good."

The investigation is ongoing and Patch will update the story as new information is released.
