Police Still Warn of Roof Rack Thefts

Police are asking residents to remove bicycle and ski racks from the roofs of their cars.

The 5th District of the Philadelphia Police Department has asked that all residents with a bicycle or ski roof rack on their car to please take it off their vehicle.

“We’ve had a three bicycle racks stolen from cars in the last week or so,” said Officer Charlie Kline two weeks ago.  “We’re asking that people remove them and take them inside.”

Kline added recently that thieves are still targeting roof racks.

Several cars have been broken into lately, and either the car was unlocked or the GPS was on display.

Kline also asked that residents please close the windows to their homes when it is possible, and that to make certain all doors and windows are locked.

“When it gets hot like this, people just walk up to a window and pop out the screen,” Kline said.
