Police Warn of Uptick in Bicycle Thefts

Police are asking residents to secure their bicycles after a recent increase in thefts.

The 5th District Police are asking residents to secure their bicycles after a recent increase in thefts in the area.

The police department encourages residents to participate in the city’s Bike Identification Keeping Effort.

Police ask that residents make sure their bikes are secured with a bike lock, or that they are stored in a secure, locked location like a garage or inside a home.

“We also recommend all bike owners place a unique identifier on their bike in the event of a theft,” said Officer Charlie Kline of the 5th District.

Having a bike registered in the Bike Identification Keeping Effort as well as having a signifier can significantly increase the chance of recovery.
