The following are a select list of incidents from the first half of February as provided by the Philadelphia Police Department’s 5th District, which covers Roxborough and Manayunk.

 

Aggravated Assault By Handgun

A man reported that on Feb. 9 at about 9 p.m. another man put a handgun to his head and threatened to kill him, according to a police report. The incident happened outside of a home on the 400 block of Dupont Street. Officers caught up with the suspect, placing him into custody. No weapon was recovered, however, and no official charges were filed since the victim never showed up to give a statement at Northwest Detectives, according to the police report. The suspect’s name was withheld because he was never formally charged.

Purse Snatch

A woman reported that while walking with her husband Feb. 12 at about 8:45 a.m. along the 400 block of Leverington Avenue, three men approached her, spun her around, and fled with her purse, which contained medication and other items, according to police. The victims were uninjured. The purse was later recovered by police at Leverington Avenue and Pechin Street and returned to the owner, police said. Upon its return, the only items missing from the purse were the bottles of medication. The suspects were not caught.

 

Thefts From Vehicle

A woman reported that sometime between 2 a.m. and 10:15 a.m. Feb. 12, someone entered her vehicle, which had been parked on the 700 block of Ivins Road, and stole a number of items, including $10 in loose change, two sets of keys, two phone chargers, a global positioning system (GPS) unit and a video store rental card, according to a police report. There was no sign of forced entry to the vehicle. Police received reports of two other similar incidents occurring on the same block during roughly the same time period. 

 

Theft From Vehicle

A vehicle parked along the 4800 block of Pechin Street was broken into sometime between 10 p.m. Feb. 12 and 11:30 a.m. Feb. 13, police reported. The side window of the vehicle was broken, allowing the suspect or suspects to steal a Pioneer stereo face plate valued at about $300. No suspect was arrested.

 

Aggravated Assault

A man who had been frequenting a bar on the 100 block of Ripka Street Feb. 13 around 2 a.m. reported that he was assaulted by two men after an argument between the three, police said. The victim said when he left the bar, the two men were waiting for him outside. The victim said he blacked out during the attack, according to police. He suffered a broken nose and was taken to Lankenau Hospital via cab. All three men involved are reportedly college students, according to police.

 

License Plate Stolen

A man reported that someone stole the license plate from his vehicle while it was parked along the 4000 block of Main Street in Manayunk Feb. 13 sometime between 5:30 p.m. and 6 p.m., according to police. The property, valued at $60, was never recovered.

 

Robbery

A resident of the 1000 block of Crease Lane reported that on Feb. 13 at about 12:30 a.m., four men forcibly entered her home and attacked her son and his friends, who had been at the house at the time, according to police. The son had had an earlier altercation with one of the suspects, police said. When the suspects finally left the house, they took with them an X-Box unit and several video games, valued at a total of $450. No injuries were reported.
