Second Jewelry Robber Caught, A.I. Poland Owner Responds

Police apprehended Anthony Burnett, 43, on April 30.

Philadelphia police confirmed on Friday that they have apprehended the second suspect in the the of .

According to police, at 10:59 p.m. on April 30, Anthony Burnett, 43, was spotted by Philadelphia police on the corner of North 21st and Norris Streets. When police approached Burnett, he materialized a large knife and charged them, before being shot twice in the torso.

Burnett is currently being treated for the gunshot wounds at Temple University Hospital, where he is subject to around-the-clock surveillance. He is in stable condition.

According to police spokesman Officer Christine O'Brien, in addition to the original charges relating to the robbery, Burnett is now being charged with assault of an officer, possessing an instrument of crime, simple assault, and recklessly endangering another person.

His preliminary hearing is scheduled for May 18.

Burnett's alleged partner in the robbery, Raheem Hankerson, 30, turned himself into police on April 5 shortly after a warrant for his arrest was issued.

A.I. Poland owner Victor Ostroff, who was struck in the head by the gun of either Hankerson or Burnett during the March 29 robbery, said he was relieved to hear the news of Burnett's apprehension.

"We're thrilled he got captured and he's off the street," said Ostroff, who had a new security system installed in the aftermath of the robbery of $100,000 in jewelry. "It gives us some closure."

A.I. Poland Jewelers is currently holding a going-out-of business sale. Ostroff says his retirement is unrelated to the robbery.
