Tips To Avoid Becoming The Victim Of A Theft

Officer Charlie Kline gave residents some tips at local civic association meetings.

Although Officer Charlie Kline said that the police department is catching some people responsible for the thefts from automobiles in the area, he warned residents to be smart.

"If you have a GPS system, put it in the glove compartment, take it out of the car when you leave," he said at the Manayunk Neighborhood Council meeting last month. "They're stealing them like crazy."

Even if the navigation system is not visible, Kline said a person will break into a car if they see a ring on the windshield where a navigation system was mounted.

With the holiday season right around the corner, Kline also reminded residents that when they're out shopping to make sure that once they fill their car with newly purchased items to move to car. Moving the car will help prevent it from getting broken into because, according to Kline, theives target certain stores in the area.

He reminded women to carry their purses across their chest and advised men to put their wallets in their front pockets.
