Osborn St. Water Main Break Leaves 11 Homes Without Service

Water flow quickly ceased on small Manayunk block.

Update: 2:45 p.m.

Philadelphia Water Department crews quickly controlled a water main break Monday morning on the 10 block of Osborn Street in Manayunk. However, some properties remain without water.

A six-inch water main break erupted around 9:30 a.m. Monday morning at the dead-end street off of Ridge Avenue, flooding the small block's lower end, PWD spokesperson John DiGiulio said.

Crews quickly contained the water flow after arriving on scene. A worker on site said the valve was immediately turned off and that they were waiting for the pooled water to dissipate.

DiGiulio said that although the flow quickly stopped, 11 properties remained without water service throughout Monday. He said he expected service restoration to occur within a few hours, closer to 5 p.m.

The relatively minor incident did not impact traffic on Ridge Avenue, as water accumulated at the block's lower end, closer to the train tracks.
