City Council At-Large Republican Candidate Q&A: Al Taubenberger
Taubenberger answers questions about his background, qualifications and what he believes are pressing issues in Philadelphia.
Background:
"I was born and raised in Northeast Philadelphia, where I still live with my family. Since 1991, I have been president of the Greater Northeast Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce, where I have grown membership to nearly 950. I have also been affiliated for many years with the Burholme Civic Association and Town Watch, where I demonstrate my continuing commitment to the preservation of our neighborhoods. I am the endorsed Republican candidate for City Council at-large, and I was my party's standard bearer in the last mayoral election."

"For most of my adult life, I have been at the forefront of preserving and creating jobs. There is no other candidate in this race from either major political party who can make that claim. Everything I do at the GNPCC is designed to promote jobs. That's what makes my candidacy so relevant today. According to the results of a poll taken about one month ago, 93 percent of likely voters in the Nov. 8 election say job creation is far and away their top priority. With humility, I believe strongly, that nobody in this race has my record in preserving and creating jobs"

"Everywhere I have gone in this campaign--from South Philadelphia to North Philadelphia; from Chestnut Hill to Mayfair; from Manayunk to Center City; from Roxborough to Bustleton, and everywhere in between, there is a common thread to community concerns: jobs, specifically family sustaining jobs, from which we can maintain neighborhood integrity and build community pride. The reality is this: most Philadelphians don't ask for much. They want safe streets, good schools, clean communities, honest government, and the opportunity to work hard and be paid a fair wage. In City Council, I intend to lead the fight to create a culture where small businesses can flourish and the jobs will follow."
