Citywide Household Hazardous Waste Drop Off Slated for Thursday

The rain or shine event is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The Streets Department is holding a citywide household hazardous waste collection event Thursday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Street's Department's training center at State Road and Ashburner Street. 

The event, a release from the department stated, provides citizens with an opportunity to recycle or dispose of unwanted household hazardous waste.

Accepted items include old and unused cans of oil-based paint, solvents, pesticides, flammable liquids such as old gasoline and kerosene, used oil, anti-freeze and brake fluid.

These items, the department continued, contain elements that are potentially hazardous when disposed of in the trash. 

More than 3,700 Philadelphia residents dropped off more than 264,000-pounds of potentially hazardous material during the city's 2010 household hazardous waste program.

Trained staff will be on hand to sort and properly package materials dropped off for disposal. No waste materials generated by a business will be accepted. This event will be held rain or shine.
