Mitchell St. Project Earns City, Community Support

Property currently at 444 Krams Ave. receives zoning and civic approval.

One Roxborough family got the city's go-ahead to build a new home and subdivide their property.

Dan and Amanda Moher received approval from the Philadelphia Zoning Board of Adjustment in May to build a three-story home on the 4500 block of Mitchell St., and keep a building at 444 Krams Ave.

The May 3, seeking the group's support. Civic President Ed Hotham then polled neighbors. In an email May 30, Hotham said no neighbors opposed the project.

The Mohers' zoning hearing met with similar success.

"Needless to say, we are happy that we will be able to proceed with our plans," Dan Moher said in an email June 1.

The plan shared by the Mohers detailed constructing a 16-foot by 40-foot, three-story home that will knock out the existing, above-ground pool and face Mitchell Street. The new home would remove one street parking space, and would have a garage and driveway for two vehicles total. Off-street parking already exists at the Krams home.

Because the property is zoned R5, the Mohers required city approval to biuld what they classify as a project more align with R9 zoning.

The Mohers will either sell or rent the current home, which they purchased in 2006.
