Democratic Challengers Set for DeLissio, Parker

A Republican also files for one General Assembly seat.

With Roxborough split between two representatives for at least one more election cycle, Democratic challengers filed for state house seats against both sitting representatives.

Last week, candidates were required to file petitions for the April 24 Pennsylvania Primary in the General Assembly.

In the House, Democrat Raymond Bailey filed against state Rep. Pamela DeLissio in the 194th District, which represents Manayunk and parts of Roxborough and Lower Merion Township, according to the Pennsylvania Department of State. DeLissio is in her first term and was elected in 2010.

Republican Linda Bateman filed for the seat, as well.

In the original plans for redistricting, the 194th was supposed to cover all of Roxborough and Manayunk. However, a Jan. 25 court order rejected the new districts, and the current boundaries stand.

That means the 200th District will still cover Andorra. Bobbie Currie opposes incumbent state Rep. Cherelle Parker in the Democratic primary. No Republicans filed for the seat.

For state senators, both incumbent Sens. Shirley Kitchen (D-3) and Vincent Hughes (D-7) will run unopposed.

The deadline to file objections to the petitions is Feb. 23.
