Fattah, Others Respond to State of the Union Address

The congressman said he needs to work to "ensure the viability of small to mid-sized manufacturers."

Rep. Chaka Fattah (D-2), whose district covers Roxborough and Manayunk, issued the following statement on President Obama's State of the Union address Tuesday night:

“Tonight the president presented a plan to secure the American Dream and pave the way for a promising future for all. He has called on Congress to put aside partisan bickering and get to work supporting dynamic programs that strategically invest in American global competitiveness.

“I look forward to working with the administration to support the President’s efforts and ensure the viability of small to mid-sized manufacturers. These are the businesses that contribute to and will grow the economy of Southeastern Pennsylvania and elsewhere.

“That means investing in a world-class workforce, which starts with strong educational opportunities for all. It means supporting the President’s efforts to make college affordable and working with initiatives in community college and career training that prepare Americans for high skill, high wage occupations – an initiative that is led, in Pennsylvania, by the Community College of Philadelphia, in my district.

“We’ve all bought into the dream of a good paying job, home ownership and a reliable retirement. But for many, especially those in the middle class, that dream is fading. The president is right: Our job is to lead a nation where every American gets a fair shot, does his and her fair share and plays by the rules. Now let’s get to work, rebuild and restore the American dream.”
