Hagys Mill Road to Close for Roadwork

Streets Department said road will close April 2.

Continuing ongoing work cleaning up residual damage from Hurricane Irene, the city announced an Andorra road will close starting April 2.

Philadelphia Streets Commissioner Clarena Tolson announced Thursday that the Hagys Mill Gate, which connects Philadelphia to Whitemarsh Township, will close from April 2 to July 13 for repair work on Manor Road.

Usually closed, the gate has remained open since August to allow through traffic near the damaged road.

"Manor Road on the side of Whitemarsh Township was washed out during last year’s Hurricane Irene requiring repairs to the roadway," Tolson said in a news release.

Starting April 2, the 100 block of Hagys Mill Road will close and crews will lock the gate.

"The Streets Department will post signs 'Do Not Enter Authorized Vehicles Only” and 'No Through Street' at the entrance to Hagy’s Mill Road. There will be no detour signs posted," Tolson said.

Through July 13, Whitemarsh Township personnel will monitor the gate, and open it every Tuesday and Thursday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for delivery and oversize vehicle needs.

At all times, emergency vehicles can access and open the gate.

"The Streets Department thanks the citizens in advance for their patience and cooperation and asks that passenger vehicles respect the request to not use the road to access Whitemarsh," Tolson said.
