Is Your ID Valid for Voting?

The may leave some scratching their heads, wondering if their forms of identification are valid. State Rep. Cherelle Parker (D-200) announced office hours devoted to verifying the quality of IDs so people can properly vote.

"It is important that our state offices are taking effective, proactive action to assist our constituents," Parker said in a news release. "Although I am opposed to this law, I believe all voters should be properly prepared to present a valid form of ID on Election Day to guarantee their ability to exercise their constitutional right to vote."

Starting Sept. 4, Parker invites constituents to bring any questionable IDs to her office on Tuesday or Thursday from 10 a.m. to noon at 1536 E. Wadsworth Ave. in Cedarbrook.

Parker, the chairwoman of the Philadelphia Democratic delegation in the state house, recently held a to discuss the new law. Continuing her education outreach, Parker's office requests residents bring the following IDs for verification:

• Pennsylvania driver’s license
• Pennsylvania photo/non-photo identification card
• U.S. passport
• U. S. military, Army Reserves or Pennsylvania National Guard ID
• City, state or federal government employee ID
• ID issued by an accredited Pennsylvania public or private institution of higher learning
• ID issued by a Pennsylvania long-term care nursing facility, assisted living residence or personal care home

The lawmaker's staff can also double check if name on the ID "substantially conforms" to the name on their voter registration card.

"If you do not have an ID or your current form of identification is not considered acceptable under the new law, our office will guide you in the right direction and follow up to make sure that a valid ID is obtained prior to the November 6 election," Parker said.

Parker's office may also make other arrangements for residents who can't make office hour. People may call 215-242-7300 to make other arrangements.
