Kendrick Council Looking For Committee Members

Committees were established at a meeting Dec. 15.

Just months after the Kendrick Advisory Council was re-established, the group has created committees to ensure that needed repairs are completed on the aging building.

At a meeting last week the group established several committees and named several chairs.

"Committees are a way to get people organized," Morgan Cephas, deputy chief of staff for Councilman Curtis Jones, said."It's a way to get more done with less work."

Below are a list of committees:

  • Recreation: The recreation committee, that will be chaired by Cathy LaRocco, a residet and fitness program participant, will be responsible for programming and deciding what is immediately needed.
  • Safety: The safety committee is "really critical and will be the eyes and ears of the community," Cephas said. The committee will be responsible for engaging the local town watch and the 5th district. The committee may also go to the district's PSA meetings and look into assigning a specific officer to the rec center and the possibility of installing cameras and extra lighting.
  • Field: The field committee, that will be chaired by Tony Casselli, will focus on reporting what is needed for the rec center's outdoor facilities.
  • Capital: The capital committee will set the priorities and make recommendations. This committee is important because, Cephas said, it's better that community members establish the priorities rather than representatives from Councilman Jones' office or the city.
  • Fundraiser: The fundraising committee, which will be chaired by Ernie Barile, president of the 21st Ward Athletic Association, will focus on researching and apply for grants and organizing small fundraising events.

The advisory council is looking for members for each committee. Interested community members can contact Bill Maliza at the recreation center.
