Neighborhood Council Asks Developer to Change Plans

The Manayunk Neighborhood Council asks for a three-bedroom apartment to become two one-bedroom apartments.

A developer asked the Manayunk Neighborhood Council to support his effort to extend the third floor of a building at 113 Gay St. in order to build an additional apartment unit.

The building currently has three floors on one side and two floors on the other.

The two-floor side is currently a garage with a residential unit on top of it.

The builder wants to extend the third floor over top of the second floor to create more floor space and a more unified façade.

The developer originally planned to rehabilitate the building so that the first floor would have one small commercial unit and one one-bedroom residential unit.

The second floor would have two one-bedroom apartments, and the third floor would be one three-bedroom apartment with roof access.

The Manayunk Neighborhood Council asked if the builder would consider building two one-bedroom apartments on the third floor to prevent it from becoming a desirable living space for college kids.

The developer said that he could do that, and that he doesn’t want to rent to college kids in the first place.

The new units would also have four available parking spaces in the nearby Parkway operated parking lot.
