New Event Space Seeks Variance

A new catered event space needs a variance to combine three properties into one entity.

Developers came before the Manayunk Neighborhood Council earlier this month with plans to build an art gallery/catered event space at 4446-4450 Cresson St. and 109 Green Lane.

The developers needed a zoning variance in order to combine the properties into a single use space.

The developers plan on using the space for receptions and banquets, and they assured the neighborhood council that it would never be used as a nightclub.

One resident asked if people would be allowed to rent out the space and then charge admission, and the developers assured him that it would not happen.

The maximum occupancy of the space would be 300 people.

The developers said they also have the support of the historical review committee because they would be updating the façade of the transmission shop on Green Lane.

Another resident said that he was concerned about parking, but the developers said that they had made an agreement with the owners of the parking lot across the street, and that event attendees would be free to park there.

The developers want to begin construction in January in order to be open in the spring for wedding season.
