Nutter: We Will Have a Race in 2014

The Mayor released a statement about the cancellation of the Manayunk Bike Race on Tuesday.

In a statement released through his press office on Tuesday, Mayor Michael Nutter said that Philadelphia was "committed … to working toward securing a major pro cycling event in 2014."

“… We are committed to working with the very best promoters to develop a complete event in 2014 that will reestablish our city as a world-class cycling destination,” he said in a release. "In 2014, we will be back with a premier international, professional cycling race, but we’ll also be honoring the importance of the bicycle as a major form of transportation in the 21st Century.”

The Mayor's full statement can be seen here.

It is unclear at this time what this means for the Friday meeting announced Monday by the Manayunk Development Corporation and Congressman Bob Brady.
