Park for Free Saturdays During Holidays

Metered parking free after 11 a.m. all Saturdays through year's end.

Christmas shopping just got a little easier for shoppers in Northwest Philadelphia and citywide.

The Philadelphia Parking Authority announced free metered parking for next Saturdays through the end of the year. That offer extends citywide, including Main Street Manayunk, Germantown Avenue in Chestnut Hill and Mt. Airy, and Ridge Avenue in Roxborough.

“The Philadelphia Parking Authority is pleased to join with Mayor Michael Nutter and be a part of spreading the holiday joy and encouraging shoppers to patronize local merchants during the holidays,” PPA Executive Director Vince Fenerty said.

The deal began Nov. 24 and continues until Dec. 29. Free metered parking starts at 11 a.m. each Saturday.

All other parking violations will be enforced, Fenerty said.

Additionally, several downtown parking lots will offer discounted rates ($8) from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Local groups, like the Manayunk Development Corporation or the Chestnut Hill Community Association, haven't yet announced similar discounts. Free municipal lots exist off Ridge Avenue in Roxborough and Germantown Avenue in Mt. Airy, with 2-hour limits.
