Philadelphia Police on Hunt for New Officers

Potential officers may apply until March 16.

Despite the bad economic times, Philadelphia Police are looking for new officers. With an uptick in violent crime in 2012 and Mayor Michael Nutter's pledge to halt it, the police are looking for new recruits.

According to flyers from the department, the police require applicants to be 21 years old when hired and meet one of the four below requirement:

  • Taken a minimum of 60 college credits;
  • Served a minimum of two years active military service with an honorable discharge;
  • Possess a minimum of one year as a state certified law enforcement officer in any state; or
  • Completed the Philadelphia Police Explorers Cadet program.

On Feb. 18 and March 10, the department will host a police career day at the Philadelphia Police Academy, 8501 State Road, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The deadline for applications is March 16.
