Rep. Fattah Makes Veterans Day Statement

“Today, we honor the more than 22 million living veterans in our country. We thank them for their service, for their bravery and courage on the battlefield, their leadership at home, and their steadfast commitment to defending freedom and liberty. And we recognize these individuals and their families for the great sacrifices they have made for the safety and security of all Americans.

“We have no greater obligation than to support our nation’s military and their families. On Veterans Day, we recommit ourselves to ensuring our veterans have the support and resources they need when they transition back to civilian life – including professional and educational development, affordable housing, access to high wage jobs, and quality healthcare.

“As thousands of veterans returning from Iraq and Afghanistan are suspected of suffering from traumatic brain injuries, we must continue to advocate for their unique medical needs, and provide mental health services for these individuals. I will continue my neuroscience advocacy efforts to increase awareness of these and other brain diseases that affect our service men and women.

“I will also keep fighting for new research funding to advance treatments that will relieve the psychological and physical effects of war. Through continued advocacy of healthcare and other services, I know we can strengthen our support of America’s veterans. Together, we celebrate these selfless heroes, today and every day.”
