Snow Emergency Declared in Philadelphia

Schools have been closed on Wednesday, and all cars parked on emergency roads must be moved.

Mayor Michael Nutter has issued a snow emergency for the city of Philadephia effective at 4 p.m. on Tuesday.

The announcement comes after Philadelphia received six inches of snow in a matter of hours with more expected throughout Tuesday evening.

With the snow emergency all public and Catholic schools in the city will be closed on Wednesday.

Because a snow emergency has been declared anyone parked along one of the city's snow emergency routes must move their car, or it will be towed.

The snow emergency roads in Roxborough and Manayunk include the southern part of Ridge Avenue between Kelly Drive and Walnut Lane, Walnut Lane and Henry Avenue until it becomes Ridge Avenue again in Andorra.
