The Economy, Change & Civic Duty Brought People to the Polls Tuesday

Although a number of polling places in Roxborough and Manayunk reported low voter turnout Tuesday, Michael Baumann said he wouldn't miss it.

"I haven't missed an election since I was first able to vote in 1976," he said after voting at . "I think the low turnout is a disgrace. People are apathetic but this is their life. There should be lines out the door."

Although he didn't have much time to talk, one voter at the said his reason for coming out was simple - it's time for a change.

Les and Joanne Brown, who also voted at Shawmont agreed that it was time for change.

"I don't trust Republicans at all, all they want to do is get the President out," Les said. "They don't care about what else happens, and that's just wrong."

Joanne cited healthcare, the economy and the high unemployment rate as a reason to make it to the polls.

Bob Massella said it was time for a major change.

"I didn't vote for anyone who is in office now, I don't like any of them," he said. "No one is doing a good job, the economy is collapsing. I voted for whoever is against Nutter."

But Steve Bachman didn't want that major of a change.

"I'm a conservative Republican and I voted for Nutter," he said. "[Nutter] has made some tough, unpopular decisions. He's not kicking the can down the road."

Bachman, who said he votes regularly, said his main concerns this year were financial.

Millie Ofray said she comes out to make sure her voice is heard.

"I want to make sure that the people who are doing a good job get elected," she said. "It's a way to show my support."
