Unemployment Rate Stays the Same in June

Pennsylvania's unemployment rate in June was slightly lower than the national rate of 6.1 percent.

Pennsylvania’s unemployment rate remained at 5.6 percent during June, the Pennsylvania Department of Labor & Industry announced Friday.

The state rate is down 1.9 percentage points from a year ago.

“Pennsylvania’s civilian labor force – the number of people working or looking for work – was down 28,000 in June to 6,403,000 due to declines in both employment and unemployment,” the Department of Labor & Industry said in a statement.

The private sector added 5,600 jobs to make a record high of 5,079,400 jobs. Public sector jobs declined by 3,800, according to state figures.
