Mardi Gras - Could it be God behind that mask?

Strange how God doesn’t do what we expect or abide by our schedules.  Most people think that God has no interest in Mardi Gras, no time for silly shenanigans, and is appalled by it all.  But if the Bible is any indication of God’s timing and interests, the   Bible suggests that God has a keen interest in Mardi Gras and perhaps even making an appearance at Fat Tuesday.  You see - the Bible is very clear - God likes a good party!!Where did Jesus perform his first miracle in the Gospel of John?  Answer:  At a party that had ripped through all of the wine and was in need of a good miracle AND more libations.  When was the church technically born?  Answer:  On a day dedicated to a party (i.e. festival)!  Most people forget that Pentecost was one of the great party days of the Jewish people demanding that everybody stop work to celebrate the abundance of God and the gift of the law.  God showed up at a party in the book of Daniel to write on a wall.  And the Book of Leviticus calls for the mother of all parties - The Year of Jubilee - to be celebrated by all of the faithful.  And how does Jesus often picture the kingdom of God?  Answer:  As a really good wedding party.  Some look at Mardi Gras as a God forsaken practice, but if the Bible has anything to say about Fat Tuesday, it seems like this party is right where God would show up.  Cheers!  And keep your eyes open this Mardi Gras - you never know who you might encounter!!
