Back to School Education Extravaganza Set for Friday

School District of Philadelphia invites families to prep for next year at South Philly event.

Students and families within the School District of Philadelphia are getting ready for school to start again.

The district, through a partnership with Radio One and Forman Mills, will present the Back to School Education Extravaganza Friday, held at South Philadelphia High School, 2101 South Broad St.

The event marks about one month until school begins. For grade 1-12 students within the district, Sept. 7 is the first day of school. For kindergarten, pre-kindergarten Head Start and Bright Futures pupils, the first day is Sept. 19.

According to a news release, the event will feature information tables, workshops and presentations to help prepare for the 2012-13 school year. All families and community members are welcome from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

  • Kids Zone with educational games, and
  • "Philly Students Got Talent Show" from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
