District Officials to Attend Meeting on AMY-Levering Schools

The meeting will take place Monday.

There's another to chance to weigh in. The School District of Philadelphia scheduled a third meeting to discuss the move of  to  in Roxborough.

Scheduled for Jan. 30 at the AMY Northwest building at 6611 Ardleigh St. from 7 to 9 p.m., the meeting is intended to address parent's concerns for the move. 

"At this meeting you will receive additional information about the rationale for the proposed relocation, and questions will be answered from previous community meetings," a letter from the district to parents and family members read. "You will also have an opportunity to ask questions and express your concerns."

The middle school is slated to move to Roxborough—to the current Levering School building at 6600 Ridge Ave.—next school year, and Levering would close, integrating kids into the crowded local elementary schools.

Levering parents  to consider keeping the K-8 school open and to consider keeping it in the same Ridge Avenue building, along with AMY Northwest. AMY Northwest parents, meanwhile, have said their school's small-scale, community-based character.

AMY parents have mostly said they're concerned about how they're going to get their children to school every day. The district has promised to come up with some sort of transportation plan to assuage their fears.

The letter is signed by new Acting Superintendent Thomas Knudsen. Knudsen will be in the job for at least six months but won't be considered as a permanent candidate for the position.
