SCEE Trips: "Above Manayunk: Hiking the Ivy Ridge Trail"
The iconic Manayunk Bridge, soaring over the Schuylkill River and abandoned as a railroad bridge, is set for new life as a hike-and-bike trail. It’s been the subject of many planning meetings, as it connects to the canal walk and the river trail, allowing one access to Center City and Valley Forge. Kay Sykora of the Schuylkill Project and SCEE’s Mike Weilbacher lead a walk from the Ivy Ridge rail-to-trail to stop near the bridge to share its possibilities. We’ll walk onto Venice Island and along the towpath to hike a rarely used and little-known bridge across the Schuylkill to see the just-opened Cywnyd Heritage Trail. There’s a lot of action on this small area of land—come see it firsthand!
