Green Woods Charter CEO Talks Lockdown

The school was locked down for approximately two hours yesterday after a 19-year-old wanted for attempted murder escaped police custody in the area of the Andorra Shopping Center.

After learning that a 19-year-old wanted for attempted murder had in the area of the Andorra Shopping Center Thursday morning, the Green Woods Charter School locked down.

"It means no one is in and no one is out from the time we go into lockdown," CEO Jean Wallace said Friday.

Wallace said the school was locked down from approximately 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and the children were not let out for recess. It was lifted, she added, when the police notified her that they believed the man was no longer in the area.

Although it was rumored that the man might have been on the school's property because it is surrounded by woods, Wallace could not confirm.

"There is no way of knowing that. All we heard was that he escaped near the Andorra Shopping Center and was then found at his mother's house," she said. "Being surrounded by woods does come with these kinds of challenges but our staff is well-prepared and our students and parents were wonderful."

The parents were notified via a robo-call and the school was in constant contact with them throughout the day.

The staff explained the situation to all students and Wallace said the children did a fine job handling the situation.

"They did stellar," she said.
