Levering, AMY Northwest Parents May Voice Opinions Saturday

School Reform Commission to hold public meetings on Northwest Philly schools.

Following a process of info sessions held throughout the city, the School Reform Commission will hold public meetings Saturday afternoon to decide the future of two Northwest Philadelphia schools.

In a hearing at the district's office downtown, the SRC scheduled public meetings on the closing of and the subsequent move of AMY Northwest Middle School's into the Roxborough building.

According to the School Reform Commission, Levering has a hearing at 5 p.m., with AMY Northwest following at 6 p.m. March 3.

In November, the district announced a , a Roxborough elementary school, and transfer its students to another Manayunk or East Falls school. , based in Mt. Airy, would relocate to the Ridge Avenue spot.

With a mostly Mt. Airy student body, AMY Northwest has opposed the move due to  from one side of the Wissahickon Creek to the other.

Elementary schools in Manayunk have also raised concerns about overcrowding in their remaining schools.

The Saturday hearing will include a 10-minute presentation from district officials, testimony from registered speakers (totaling 40 minutes), and questions from SRC members (10 minutes).
