More Details on Holy Child-St. Bridget's Merger

Following initial news, here's detailed info on Manayunk-East Falls school consolidation.

Following an emotional Friday for Catholic school parents, students, teachers and alumni, more details have emerged on a merging of a Manayunk Catholic elementary school.

, Manayunk's will merge with St. Bridget's in East Falls. Though complete merging options will be hammered out over time, some details are available.

A regional school, Holy Child represents students from all five Manayunk Catholic churches—, , , and .

Under the current plan, the campus will be at Holy Child's current site—242 Hermitage St., which is 3.3 miles from the East Falls' school, according to the archdiocese. The school's name could change.

In the archdiocese's plan, 410 students are projected to attend the regional school, which was originally created a few years earlier when Manayunk schools combined. A task force made up of five Manayunk leaders from the respective churches and Rev. Joseph Devlin from St. Bridget will craft the strategy of merging.

Details released from the archdiocese include:

  • Holy Child is currently 70 percent at capacity; St. Bridget is 50 percent.
  • Of the six churches involved, only St. John the Baptist has a surplus ($52,235).
  • The combined allocation to the two schools currently is $430,236.
