Notebook Publishes List of Possible School Closings; Changes Would Affect Northwest Philadelphia

Students from other schools may be coming to William Levering.

The Philadelphia Public School Notebook has published a confidential list of schools the School District of Philadelphia may be planning to close last year.

The report emphasizes that the list is by no means final. But according to the report,Parkway Northwest High School For Peace and Justice and AMY Northwest Middle School would be relocated to the current building in Roxborough (since the leases at the two schools are now up) for the 2013-14 school year.

Levering, which is at 6000 Ridge Ave., would close before the 2012-13 school year, and its students would be relocated to Cook-Wissahickon and Dobson schools.

A portion of Germantown High School would be demolished (since the school is currently too big for its enrollment) before the 2013-14 year begins, and the K-5 section of Roosevelt Middle School would be taken away (and some of those students would be fed into Eleanor C. Emlen School) by the 2012-13 year.
