Santa's Secret Shop Relocated To Manayunk

The shop was open at the school this week.

The parents at became elves last week as they set up the school's annual Santa's Secret Shop.

The shop is held in the school's hall and allows the students to pick out Christmas gifts for their family and friends.

"It's a real highlight of the year," HSA President Michelle Doerr said. "The kids love it."

Gifts ranged in price from .50 to $9 and include nice calculators, jewelry as well as fun stuff for their brothers and sisters.

"It's a great way for the kids to learn about the importance of giving and not just receiving during the holidays," she said.

And, she added, it's a tradition.

The shop has opened every year since the school opened its doors and when the woman who had been heading the shop for years stepped down, Doerr stepped up.

"It's been going on since the school opened," she said. "It's absolutely something we want to continue."

Although it does take some work to transform the hall into Santa's workshop, Doer said it's definitely worth it.

"The kids get so excited," she said. "They really want to get stuff for their families, and if they get a little something for themselves, that's OK too."
