World Class Organist to Perform Christmas Concert With a Cause

Karen Christianson, a junior at Episcopal Academy, will perform at the school's Christmas Concert on Dec. 11 and will donate all proceeds to the Northern Home for Children in Philadelphia.

The Northern Home For Children is getting a little extra help this Christmas season.

Karen Christianson, a junior at , will perform on Dec. 11 at 5 p.m. at the school's Class of 1944 Chapel. Concert-goers are encouraged to donate $10 or an unwrapped gift, in which all proceeds and gifts will go towards the in Philadelphia.

The Northern Home for Children in Philadelphia is  a safe haven for children and a safety net for children and families facing extraordinary challenges, according to their website.

At just 16, has given more than 50 solo recitals and has been recognized as a world-class organist.

Since the age of 7, Christianson has been studying organ and has played renown organ venues throughout the country and Europe. According to Episcopal Academy, some of Christianson's recent performance venues have included Adolphus Busch Hall at Harvard University, the Princeton University Chapel, Trinity Church in Boston, the Cathedral of St. John the Divine in New York City, the National Cathedral in Washington, D.C., the Bovenkerk in Kampen, Netherlands, and Coventry Cathedral in England. Christianson’s future concert schedule includes performances at St. Philip’s Cathedral in Atlanta, GA, Grace Cathedral in San Francisco, CA, and Gloucester Cathedral in England.

In addition to her, Christianson has also been featured in broadcasts on Philadelphia radio stations WRTI and KYW.

The New Jersey Classical Network, WWFM and affiliated stations, featured Christianson's recital at the Princeton University Chapel in a live radio broadcast earlier this year.

Christianson currently studies organ with Alan Morrison, head of the organ department at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, piano with Donna Harrington at the Episcopal Academy, and organ improvisation with Jeffrey Brillhart, on the faculty of the Yale School of Music and Director of Music at Bryn Mawr Presbyterian Church.
