1st Annual Manayunk Tomato Trot, 4-Mile Charity Run

We are holding our first annual 4-mile charity trail run on Saturday, 9/29 at with a 4:30 race start time (registration begins at 2:30pm).   We are calling it the "Manayunk Tomato Trot", and it is being hosted by The Couch Tomato Cafe' & The Tomato Bistro, and will take place along the river in Manayunk.  For more details, the Tomato Trot website is http://www.TomatoTrot.com.

Proceeds are being donated to LUNGevity and several hundred runners are expected to participate.  The idea was created by owners Craig Mosmen & Michael Cassano (along with the help of Amy & Mike Connolly from the annual Fools Run Charity Race in Manayunk), as a means of bringing awareness to the battle against lung cancer which sadly took the life of my father (Arnold F. Mosmen, Jr.).  The intention is to establish this newly formed annual tradition in memory of him.   This is intended to be a fun race although legitimized with the help of "Run The Day" race management group, who will track race times and post them online while using microchip timing equipment.  The run will start at the lock street parking lot in Manayunk and span 2 miles west toward Conshohocken along the Manayunk tow path, at which point it will return back to the finish line along the same path.  The race (and ceremony after the race) is being planned rain or shine.

After the race there will be a block party held in front of The Couch Tomato Cafe' & The Tomato Bistro with live acoustic music by well known Dan Frantz, a brief award ceremony, and free gourmet pizza slices being handed out to all runners.  The winner of the race will win FREE PIZZA for 1 full year.  The 2nd place winner will receive free pizza for 6 months, and 3rd place will win free pizza for 3 months (limit 1 large pizza per week).

All registrants will receive lots of freebies, including a high-quality Tomato Trot T-shirt, bracelet, and lots of vouchers for The Couch Tomato Cafe' & The Tomato Bistro (www.ManayunkTomato.com) to be used after race day, including free beers, free slices, free buffet lunches, and more!   Also, all runners and their guests that dine at The Tomato Bistro for dinner after the race will further help LUNGevity, as The Tomato Bistro will be donating 5% of their guest check to the organization!  However, reservations must be made asap for those that are interested, as we expect seats to fill up fast!  Reservations can be made by calling 215-483-2233 x. 2.

To register for the 1st annual Manayunk Tomato Trot, you may register online at www.TomatoTrot.com, OR arrive at 102 Rector St. Phila PA 19127 by 2:30pm and register.  The registration fee is $25 online (for a limited time only at the www.TomatoTrot.com website) or $30 on race day at the registration table.  All registrants will receive a microchip, T-shirt, runner's bib, Tomato Trot bracelet, and packet of menu vouchers starting at 2:30pm on race day.

Please give yourself a little extra time to arrive, as this event is being held the same day as the Manayunk StrEAT festival which will be closing down most of Main Street.
