Russian, German Take 2012 Bike Race

Brief storm adds drama to last legs of the bike race.

Nearly perfect conditions lasted for the duration of the 2012 Philadelphia International Cycling Championship, paving the way for a Russian and German to win, respectively, the men's and women's bike race through Philadelphia.

Aside from a mid-afternoon shower that drenched Manayunk and Roxborough, the 28th race traveling up the Manayunk Wall witnessed ideal conditions June 3.

Alexander Serebryakov won the 2012 men's bike race. Racing with Team Type 1—Sanofi, the Russian finished the 124-mile race at 4:32:06. His teammate, Slovenian Aldo Ino Ilesic, placed second with a nearly identical score. American Fred Rodriguez barely missed the win, coming in third.

In the women's Liberty Classic, German Ina Teutenberg won with a time of 2:29:08. Austrian Rochelle Gilmore placed second, and Italian Giorgia Bronzini was in third.

Every year, the Pro Cycling Tour rewards those who best tackle the Manayunk Wall with a men's and women's award. American Kiel Reijnen won King of the Mountain. Like Sanofi and Isesic, Reijnen rides for Team Type 1—Sanofi.
