Excessive Heat Warning Extended to 5 p.m.

National Weather Service extends warning through Friday.

The heat continues Friday.

Extending its excessive heat warning, the National Weather Service said its warning continues to be in effect until 5 p.m.

According to the weather service, heat index values are up to 103 due to temperatures in the mid 90s and dewpoints near 70 degrees.

"The worst would be felt by those who live and/or work in the urban areas. Those who are at a greater risk include the elderly, the infirm, children and anyone without air conditioning," the service said.

In addition, the service reminded people to keep their pets cool.

A Code Red expired in Philadelphia Friday morning. However, the city still posted information on tips to stay cool and how to detect heat stroke.

Temperatures could finally break later in the day, but the NWS said nighttime levels will barely reach into the 70s.
