Hobo Ball Marks 75 Years of North Light

Fundraiser honors community leaders at Artesano Gallery.

Since its inception in 1936, has served as the guiding force for children, adults and the elderly in the Manayunk, Roxborough, Wissahickon and Andorra neighborhoods.

On Saturday, community leaders will gather to honor those who have made the organization thrive at the Hobo Ball.

Held at the  on Cresson Street in Manayunk, the event ushers guests into the wayback machine, to imagine a rail-riding, gin slinging hobo world where North Light emerged from the rabble.

Today, North Light on Green Lane provides afterschool programming for students, job training for adults, and emergency support, among other aspects.

The North Light community will honor the following Saturday night:

  • Christopher McGill, president, will receive the Ann Wright Founders Award 
  • Rick Carocci, formerly of Trans American Office Furniture, will receive the Corporate Community Advocate Award
  • Jane Lipton, executive director, , will receive the John J. Willard Community Award
  • Dan and Luana Neducsin, , will receive the Education Philanthropy Award

Also on hand will be local lawmakers state Senator Vincent Hughes (D-7), state Rep. Pam DeLissio (D-194), and City Councilman Curtis Jones, Jr. (D-4).
