North Light Seeks Community Participation in New Playground Project

A playground build day has been scheduled for Sept. 30, but before that, the community center is hosting a planning meeting in early August to gather public input.

North Light Community center is improving its outdoor play space and wants the community’s input.

The community center has announced it will be working with KaBOOM, a national nonprofit that preserves play spaces, and the Community Design Collaborative to "reimagine" the remaining outside space.

“Think outdoor classroom, greening, rain garden- let your imagination run wild,” the community center said in an announcement.

“We're calling on community members to provide input and sweat equity to create a space the neighborhood can be proud of!  Please help make this project a reality by participating in the design process or getting your hands dirty with the site preparation or the build itself.”

The following meetings have been scheduled:

Thursday, Aug. 7, 6 -8 pm - Community Design Collaborative Planning Meeting - bring your imagination to create a beautiful and useful community space.

Saturday, Sept. 27, 8 am-5 pm and/or Monday, Sept. 29, TBA - Site Preparation - pitch in to remove the old playground and get the site ready for the new one.

Tuesday, September 30, 8 am-3pm - Playground Build Day

Thursday October 16 6- 8 pm - Respond to the CDC design plans for North Light's other outdoor space that result from the Aug. 7 session.

All meetings and events will take place at North Light, 175 Green Lane.
